Help teach your students about Emotional Regulation by focusing on thinking about the size of problems. This game starts with a discussion about why students should be aware of the size of the problem before having (typically an oversized) emotional reaction to the situation. I have many students in my counseling who break out into tantrums and outbursts for small problems, such as someone sitting in their chair or losing at a game. I made this for them, and you can use it too!

Learning to think about the size of problems can help student to identify situations where their emotional responses should match the situation. It can also help them to learn to think of solutions to their problems of any size. As the counselor, you will lead them in the game, but then contribute to the discussion of a solution they could make before having a big emotion to a small problem.

This game is a fun and easy way to help students learn to think about the SIZE of Problems and can be played in a small group or classroom setting.

Includes: 20 pre-made BINGO Cards.

This product is also available for FREE as a pre-made video on the Counseling Fanny Pack of Fun YouTube Channel.

This Power Point slide game can be played with your entire class for an SEL activity or used in small group counseling to help younger students learn about “The Size of Problems”. This is an important skill for helping children with improving their emotional regulation.

This game is an easier version of the Size of Problems BINGO game available in my store, which is better for children in Grades 3-5.

It was adapted to accommodate students that I work with in special education. Coloring circles was just much easier for them to understand and participate with the game activity. If you have younger students who could benefit from this activity, or support special education classrooms, then this game will help you teach them Size of Problems in a fun and engaging way.

Includes the Gameboard (separate download)

Help students with learning about the “Size of Problems”, or “Bid Deal vs. Little Deal”. This topic of counseling can help students who are struggling with learning to manage their emotions. With this fun and easy gameboard counseling activity, students will think about if different stressful situations are a “Big Deal” or a “Little Deal”. Then they will give an appropriate emotional or behavioral response in order to move up a space.

Use the game for teaching skills, discussion of their own experiences, and with reinforcing lessons that you have given on the “Size of Problems.”

Set-up:

Shuffle all Situation Cards and Big/Little Deal behavior cards.

Place the Situation Cards face down in on the gameboard labeled “Situation Cards” and the “Big/Little Deal” cards face down on their black square on the gameboard.

To Play:

Have students roll one die at a time. Youngest player starts first and goes clockwise for all other players.

•If they land on a STAR pull a situation card and read it. Have the student answer if the situation is a BIG or Little Deal. Then have the share an appropriate emotional or behavioral response to the Situation. If the counselor agrees with the response, then the player can move up one space. Their turn is then over, even if they are now on another star or X.

•If the student lands on an X, pull a card from the Big Deal/Little Deal Pile. If the card has an , it is a Big Emotional Response and the student has to move Back one space. Their turn is then over.

•Play until everyone is at the finish line.

•Have FUN!
