]]> Do you have students that struggle with behaviors, such as aggression, verbal outbursts, poor emotional regulation, poor work habits, poor social skills, etc.?

Turn your regular UNO game into a behavior-focused counseling game by having students learn and discuss behavioral expectations in school.

This game will help you facilitate discussions with your students in your counseling session about “Expected vs. Unexpected” behaviors at school while playing the fun game of UNO.

Playing regular UNO is good, as students work on social skills, such as turn taking, following game rules, and sportsmanship. However, incorporating learning about school behaviors into the game is AWSOME!

To play: First, you can show the Included link to a great YouTube Video about “Expected vs. Unexpected Behaviors.” (Or you can use your own favorite video on the topic as part of the lesson, or show the week prior to doing this activity). Then, play the game of UNO… When a card is put down, ask the student the corresponding prompt for their card. If the card’s question has already been played, continue with the game until someone wins!

Prompting card examples:

Is it expected or unexpected to laugh at someone who is crying?

What are the expected behaviors to have during an assembly?

Is it expected to shout out an answer before being called on by your teacher?

If your students are young or struggle with playing the actual game, you can just have them pick from the deck at random to answer their questions. Whatever they will find fun and not frustrating. It’s all about learning!

]]> This Anger Thermometer anger management tool is great for students to use as both a communication tool and a self-regulation tool. It can be introduced during a counseling sessions and implemented in the classroom.

This Worksheet-tool includes links to 2 YouTube videos on understanding the size of emotions, anger, and strategies to use when feeling elevated emotions. It is a very useful tool for students to have on their desks to easily refer to at any moment in the day and includes useful strategies for what to do in each phase of the thermometer.

The Thermometer has levels with descriptive words and pictures that match the video to help students identify their own emotions and self-regulation. It also indicates strategies to use to calm down.

I use this with many of my counseling students that have difficulty with self-regulation and anger management.

Weeks are varied with activities that include videos, lessons, games, and worksheets that are designed for individual or small group counseling sessions that run 20-30 minutes in length.

All activities have been created and used by myself with my own counseling students, so I know that they are easy, fun, and engaging for students and counselors. All activities can support and help facilitate conversations about anger management and behavior in the classroom and at school that are causing your students difficulties.

As the teacher or counselor leading the curriculum, you will be the “leader of the hike.” This means that you have control of the pace as well as the activities that you want to do in order to help your students reach their goals, improve behaviors, and earn their pathway points to get them to the top! If you just want to do the circles, behavior system, and videos…that’s fine! You chose what is easiest for you!

This curriculum includes activities, videos, and social story coloring books that are specific to this age-level of non-readers. As the leader, you can spread out the curriculum over the entire school-year, or you can compress the 5 themes into a few months. Your classroom, your pace.

  • A program progress monitoring system

  • Level 1: Social Skills, Cooperation, Manners, & working with others
  • Level 2: Developing good personal and school habits

  • Level 5: Self-Regulation and Size of Problems

Each Level Contains:
